Working in Rovaniemi, Finland, I discovered rather rapidly that the country consumes more milk than anywhere else in the world. They drink so much of it, the entire back wall of any supermarket is normally dedicated to refrigerating milk.
Experimentation with, and documentation of, spoilt milk left in the artist's studio space (unrefrigerated) for over one week. This acts as the starting point of 2016's MILK themed project.
Filmed at ULapland, Finland, September 2016.
Documentation of the performance piece titled 'Valio Tray' completed at the University of Lapland on December 2nd, between 13:38 and 14:08pm.
This performance aimed to suggest the subliminal influence of the dairy cooperative (and company) Valio on the inhabitants of Finland.
The word 'Valio' was stamped on the tray's base in red oil paint. This is hidden by the plates, food, and milk of the cafeteria whilst the artist is consuming her lunch. It is only properly and truly revealed once the food has been cleared. Once the want to know more has surpassed the need to consume.
Discussing the invasive nature of the Finnish dairy cooperative Valio, this film suggests the brand has made its way into the everyday lives of it's customers without their noticing.
The artist eats cereal and drinks tea from Valio branded bowls, cups and saucers.
The final showing of my milk themed work, aptly named 'Valio'.
